WAEC releases results, withholds 81,573.

Examinations Council, WAEC,
Wednesday released results of
the May/June 2011 West African
Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE. Head of the Nigeria National
Office, WAEC, Dr. Uyi Uwadiae, said
1,540,250 candidates, consisting
of 844,630 males and 695,620
females, sat for the May/June
2011 examination. Of the overall number, 1,460,003
candidates, representing 94.79
per cent, have their results fully
processed while 80,247
candidates, representing 5.21 per
cent have a few subjects still being processed due to errors
and omissions traceable to the
candidates themselves. Some of these errors and
omissions occurred during the
online registration for the
examination and some were
committed during the actual
conduct of the examination. He said:“The council will, as usual
work assiduously to resolve the
errors so that results of the
affected candidates can be
processed and released as soon
as possible.” he stated. The results of 81,573 candidates,
representing 5.29% of the total
number of candidates are being
withheld for various reports of
alleged involvement in
examination malpractice. According to Uwadiae, 587,630
candidates, representing 38.93%
obtained credits and above in
Mathematics, while 838,314
candidates, representing 55.34%
obtained credit and above in English language. Similarly, 618,924 candidates,
representing 40.55% obtained
credit and above in six subjects;
789,288 candidates representing
51.71% obtained five credits and
above; 943,187 (61.80%) obtained credit and above in four
subjects; whereas 1,084,817
(71.08%) obtained credit and
above in three subjects. A total of 1,223,359 candidates
representing 80.15% obtained
credit and above in two subjects.
A total of 110 blind candidates sat
for the examination, while 41 of
them, representing 37.27% obtained credit and above in five
subjects.
